DISABLED OR DIFFERENTLY ABLED?

This rather boring morning i heard the story of the week.(Dont worry,i’m about spilling-cause i cant even help it.)

On the other side of the fence, our neighbours of 20 years have a son and each time i think of words like ‘imbecile ‘ or ‘stupid’…he readily comes to mind.Well not today.
My dad was watching with both interest and amazement as Tayo-with his only useful left hand, struggled to mix the sand he had worked so hard to gather; with so much dexterity and an award winning meticulousness. He lifts the ‘concrete’ in a shovel, pours it into a mould, levels it cautiously and with the same left hand and a little help from his legs, he pours it out….watching and waiting for his ‘concrete’ mixture to form the blocks he had so often seen.

Well needless to say,it fell to the ground-tumbling down,crumbling and once again….formless-hopes shattered!
But here’s the BEST part of the story;
With all the pains of being incapacitated and being in the sun when you dont have to be and all the discouragement that comes with FAILING….Tayo repeated the process again and agaiN and agaIN and agAIN and AGAIN!,for what seemed like eternity for even my healthy dad in the comfort of his room. Each time with the same intensity of care, interest and of course wholehearted belief that he can change lead to gold(so to speak). He did it A.L.L day!
My dad called Tayo a star….not because he’d seen him win player of the year or because he’d succeeded in building tower of Babel,not even because he had finally succeeded in making a block from just wet sand but because he had in him the most important traits all stars have; belief in their ability, faith that things will turn out just fine, diligence and discipline and of course, the ability to inspire other people just by being who they are and doing what they do. And I agree!
Here’s what I’ve come to believe;

    . Broken crayons can still colour.

     .There’s a star in everyone,but some are just hidden in thick clouds while others are fortunate enough to appear in a clear night sky

     .Disability is not the same as inability….sometimes, it’s just ‘differently abled’.
